There’s no remedy for winters but to stay warm.

Everyone wants to stay warm during the cold winter days.  The dropping mercury levels bring scarves and neckwear into action.  Heavier knitted and woolen wraps replace lighter chiffon and silk scarf.

As the cold weather casts its spell scarves for women as well as mens scarves become an important dressing accessory. This lose piece of garment also become favorite gift items during the winter season.

Designers seek interesting scarf patterns for neck as well as head scarves.  Labels such as Aquascutum and Louis Vuittion add interesting scarves to their ready to wear collection. In addition to cashmere and pashmina,  fashion gurus seek newer and improved fabrics for style and convenience.

The word scarf brings to mind ‘a wrap for the neck and shoulder’ but trust me there is a lot more associated with this word!

No doubt, scarves are mostly shawl wraps of different knitting pattern used as head or neckwear to stay warm in the cold or light weight silk scarf to accessorize and outfit during the summers.

However, new and contemporary ways of utilizing the scarf include wearing it as a skirt and as a poncho.

A scarf simply wrapped around the lower body can work as an excellent skirt.  Likewise, scarves draped around the shoulders and pinned at the center can take the form of a poncho.

There garments are easy to craft and can be made with scarves of different size and material.

Square and rectangular scarves make good skirts and sarongs.  Whereas, longer and oblong once are more suitable for ponchos.

All types of material including cashmere, pashmina, cotton chiffon, woolen and silk scarves work equally well  for this style.  Be it tartan, paisley or mission all styles seem admirable when a scarf of either is worn as a skirt or a poncho.

The phone bell was ringing as I opened the main door.   I hurriedly pushed the door open and ran to get the phone but the last bell ended as I reached the handset.  As soon as I started walking away the caller made another ring and since I was within an arms length of the phone I pick it up instantly.   On the other side was Rose, and old school friend who had called to invite me to a pool side dinner at her place.  Rose and I went to the same high school and now is a well practicing doctor.  I accepted the invitation and started thinking of all the other friends who would be there too.   My next thought was what to wear as a little rain shower was expected in the afternoon which would make the weather a bit chillier by the evening.  I quickly ran to my wardrobe and searched for something suitable for the occasion.  As I peeped through my closet my eyes fell upon a black satin dress with a velvet belt.   It was a very chic dress but I had worn it so many times that I wanted something different this time.   I thought for a while and looking out the window decided to go and buy something new.

Since I was short of time I entered the first shop at the mall and started browsing through the hanging outfits but did not find anything.  The sales girl approached and offered to help and I asked her that I needed something for the evening.  She pointed towards a mannequin wearing a strapless white dress with a floral pattern silk scarf.  The scarf looked so voguish that I decided to look for a scarf to go with my black dress.  The sales girl showed me towards a colorful rack full of scarves, wraps and shawls.  Keeping the chilly weather I picked a lovely cashmere shawl to wrap around the shoulders and made the payment.

I happily returned home and started getting ready for the evening.  My new shawl was going to save me from the coldness and add style to my old dress.

Designer Wedding Scarf

It was a pleasant winter evening with the icy wind blowing the brittle leaves of the tall trees.  Loud festive music could be heard as we drove closer to the venue.   The blanket like giant mesh marquee sparkling with bright fairy lights seemed to embrace the horizon. The pavilion was filled with estimable guests; some sitting at the round tables while some were roaming around and chatting.  A large multi layered cake staged on an elegant oak table waited for the bride and the groom to enter and treat everyone to it.

Amidst the rejoicing the music all of sudden ceased and then blasted off again with ‘here comes the bride, all dressed in white’.  As the bride and groom entered walking hand in hand all eyes lay on them.  The groom wore an elegant black suit with a silk tie and dazzling black dress shoes.  The bride was one of her kind too, wearing a very pretty designer bridal dress with a formal silk scarf wrapped around her shoulders.  Even the two bridesmaids were wearing dress gowns with silk wraps around their shoulders warming up the cold winter evening in a very chic manner.  The bright red silk scarves on the white women dresses made the bridal gowns look exclusive.

The couple approached the round oak table and exchanged vows and rings followed by a kiss.  Finally, they cut the long awaited multi layered cake and the marry making began marking the beginning of a new life.
